History

Micah HouseThe journey began over ten years ago when three men started out looking to make their mark in the sober housing business.  They formed a Corporation called Aftercare, Inc.  They acquired several commercial and residential properties in North and South Minneapolis, but the first property they purchased was where the present day Micah House is located.  The three men separated and James Walker, formerly of the Affinity House transformed the Affinity House into the Affinity Halfway House.  In 2004 James approached his old partner William Lockett to take over what they had begun together ten years ago.  By this time God had already begun a mighty work in, now known as Pastor William Lockett’s life and shifted his focus on serving God’s perfect will.  Pastor Lockett prayed and received that this was God’s purpose for his life and so the Micah House opened in December of 2004.  Micah House is a faith based program, but believe in the traditional model of treatment: chemical health, relapse prevention, mental and physical health, as well as individual counseling. Those are all great tools, but man is a spirit being living in a physical body, so we believe the spiritual component is just as important as the other components that allow a recovering person to be totally delivered and set free from the bondage of addiction. We have found a commonality with those in recovery and that is a need to feel complete and when unable to achieve this feeling people create artificial fillers to fill the void, whether it be: alcohol, drugs, sex, over working, eating, or smoking; it Micah Houseis artificial or man made and must be continuously repeated to recreate that feeling of wholeness, hence creates the addictive behavior.

The spiritual component promotes change from the inside out. Our clients are taught the power within and to tap into that power no matter what your personal beliefs. We have Buddhist, Muslims, Atheist, Christians, and those that just don't know what to believe, but I don't know of any religion that supports putting poisons like drugs and alcohol into the body. Joy has to come from the inside and that is what we help our clients to discover the joy within. Micah House is a licensed program that provides competent halfway house services in Hennepin County, as well as neighboring Counties. The goal of Micah House is to promote chemical health while alleviating the wide array of disparities men experience while in recovery. Micah House is designed to address the needs of the whole man; spirituality, physically, economically in a culturally diverse environment.
